Bill is mayor of the Parish of St. Michel de Rougemont, Rolande
delivers the rural mail and Carol works in Montreal. Their youngest daughter, Louise,
lives in the village and works in Roxton Pond.

Colin Standish, son of Urban, lives with his wife Linda and 2 children, James and Katie,
in what is believed to be the oldest house of the English community in Rougemont. Colin
works as a produce inspector for the federal government and owns the orchard mext to his
brother John. They live on Lot 551, the farm first bought in 1818 by Robert Standish.CARDEN:
Carl Carden and his sister Ila live in the family residence, immediately in front of
the church. Carl owns an apple orchard and Ila worked for the federal Revenue department
in Montreal, before her retirement.
McARTHUR
Nelson McArthur, son of J.K. McArthur and Aline Standish, lives on the oldest homestead
of the Standish family, with his wife Carol and their two sons, David and Michael.
Nelson's farm entertains visitors in the fall to pick apples; he also makes maple syrup.
The Knights of Columbus operate a cross-country ski site in Rougemont, departing from
Nelson's farm with trails around the mountain. Part of their farm, Lots 546 and 547 had
been owned by James Standish, son of Matthew.
WARDLAW:
Joyce Wardlaw came to live in Rougemont with her husband, Sam and three children in the
1950's. Sam was secretary-treasurer of St.Thomas' church for nearly 12 years, and Joyce
has caried on in that capacity since his death. Joyce enjoys visits with her sons in
Ottawa and her daughter in Calgary.
GREEN:
Donald Green came to Rougemont with his mother and father in the early 1950's. The
family had a summer cottage in Rougemont since the early 1900's. Mrs Green's father, W.B.
Powell was Vice-President of the Montreal and Southern Counties Railway. A branch of the
electric train line was built through Rougemont to St.Césaire, in 1913. Mrs. Green had
many stories to tell of driving her brother's model T car, at the age of 14, to the
station. No driving license was required and the neighbours were afraid that she wouldn't
be able to stop the car. |
