On July 2nd 1848, a Petition to consecrate the St.Thomas'
Church and Burying Ground was presented to Bishop G.J Mountain of Quebec, in whose hands
lay the ecclesiastical administration of Upper and Lower Canada.

The Church was consecrated by the Right Reverend Bishop Fulford (the exact date is not
known). The name 'St.Thomas' was apparently chosen to honour the Bishop, who came from the
parish of St.Thomas in London, England.

The first recorded history available of St.Thomas. Anglican Church at Rougemont is a
report of a meeting of the inhabitants held on the 19th day of September 1848. |
